It's my first year of being a member of the Society of Botanical Artists (SBA) and oh what a year it has been!

Back in May with the annual Plantae Exhibition, my painting Polytrichum commune won the prize 'Excellence in Oils'
But not only that, I found out in December that my grant application was accepted!
Here's what the SBA had to say:
🌿 SBA Art Grant Winners! 🌿
We are thrilled to celebrate the winners of the first-ever SBA Art Grants, where smaller awards were favoured to support a variety of inspiring botanical art projects. The judging panel was delighted by the creativity, depth, and ambition of the applications, as well as the stunning artwork shared.
🏅 Third Prize (£850): Ines-Hermione Mulford @ineshermioneart for her captivating project, Macro-Landscapes!
Ines-Hermione’s work focuses on the intricate, often overlooked world of bryophytes and lichens. Her proposed exhibition, “Macro-Landscapes,” aims to reveal the hidden beauty of these organisms, exploring their textures, patterns, and structures through stunning drawings and paintings.
✨ The grant will contribute towards hiring a gallery space and creating marketing materials for a two-week solo exhibition in Edinburgh, showcasing her work from 2020 to the present, as well as new pieces created specifically for the exhibition.
Why “Macro-Landscapes” Stood Out:
🌱 A unique focus on the macro world—bringing attention to nature’s intricate details.
🌱 A well-organized and collaborative approach, with partnerships spanning the British Bryophyte Society, British Lichen Society, and other botanical organizations.
🌱 A clear vision to grow her artistic reach and secure gallery representation.
Ines-Hermione plans to host talks, live-draw in the gallery, and collaborate with local and national groups to bring this exhibition to life. We’re inspired by her dedication to sharing the wonder of bryophytes and lichens with a broader audience.
🗓️ The exhibition is slated for Spring/Summer 2025, with venues in the heart of Edinburgh being considered.
